We thought it might be helpful to do a weekly Blog Post on Helpful Resources. Covering the programs and services we use online. These may be services we offer, or — more likely– services or programs we use to make our time oline more rewarding.

Chances are if these resources help us, they’ll help you too.

The first resource is one that I use nearly every time I go online. Many believe it lowers your risk of virus infection, and it allows you to accomplish much more in a shorter period of time online with fewer hassles than normal!

So, what is this wonderful resource? Mozilla Firefox of course! For any of you who already use Mozilla you know what a wonderful tool it is.

Did you know, however, that Mozilla Firefox is brought to you by The Mozilla Foundation?

The Mozilla Foundation, an incorporated not-for-profit corporation in California which exists to provide organizational, legal, and financial support for the Mozilla open-source software project and it’s mission is to preserve choice and promote innovation on the Internet.

The Mozilla Foundation was established in July 2003 with start-up support from America Online’s Netscape division. The Mozilla Corporation was subsequently established in August 2005 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Foundation to coordinate the development and marketing of Mozilla technologies and products.

Did you also know that Mozilla was the original code name for the product that came to be known as Netscape Navigator, and later, Netscape Communicator.

Now, “Mozilla” is used as the principal trademark representing the Foundation and the official releases of Internet client software developed through the open source project.

The Open Source Project is made up of several projects including Fire Fox and Thunder Bird. In lay terms these are the alternatives to Internet Explorer and OutLook Express.

Did I also mention that because they are Open source they are FREE!

There’s a lot to do on the Web, and Firefox 2 is full of helpful features to make your time online more productive.

Have you ever faced the frustration of opening more than a couple of windows and then having to try to figure out which window is which? What was what?

We love the tabbed browsing provided by Firefox 2 because it will open new web pages in tabs by default. Each of those tabs has its own close button, but don’t worry – if you accidentally close a tab, just go to the History menu to bring it back from the list of “Recently Closed Tabs.”

You’ll never be crunched for space anymore, tabs will allow you to easily navigate from one Site, or Page, to another without difficulty.

Firefox 2 has built-in spell checking, suggest search terms for what you’re looking for, Session Restore, allows you to pick up exactly where you left off if Firefox has to restart or closes! The windows and tabs you were using, the text you typed into forms, and the in-progress downloads you had running will all be restored. You can even set Firefox 2 to always restore your previous session instead of loading a home page, so you’ll never lose your place again!

All this and much more is provided for you for free! Try it and I’m sure you’ll love it! If for some reason you don’t like it, simply remove it from your computer and go back to the old boring way of doing things! However, I’m sure that if you use Mozilla Fire fox You’ll never want to be without it!

Now, a few words about Mozilla Thunderbird. As I already mentioned Thunder bird is an alternative to email programs like OutLook and OutLook Express.

Again Thunder Bird is free, yet provides a Full-Featured Email system that is simple to use, powerful, and customizable.

Thunderbird supports IMAP and POP mail protocols, as well as HTML mail formatting.

Allows you to easily import your existing email accounts and messages.

Thunderbird has an easy to set up, built-in RSS capabilities, powerful quick search, spell check as you type, global inbox, deleting attachments and advanced message filtering round out Thunderbird’s modern feature set.

We’ve been using Mozilla Fire Fox for at least two to three years now and I seldom use anything else. Fire Fox gives me more functionality, is easier to use, and saves me a lot of time! I love Fire fox!

Thunderbird, we began using about a year ago, I love it too.

One of the things I really love about Thunderbird is how easy it is to use and how easy it is to set up to have Blog Posts come in directly to your email! Not, in your inbox cluttering up your regular email, but in a separate easy to use mail box just for the Blogs you want to subscribe to!

Again it gives you more control, saves you time, and I love both Mozilla Programs.

There are also lots of handy add ons and additional benefits. however, for the sake of brevity and not wanting to overwhelm you with all the extras, I’ll close for today and just encourage you to try Mozilla Fire Fox and Thunderbird. I think you’ll be glad you did and I welcome your comments and feedback as to your experiences, past and future, with Mozilla.
