Similarities Between New Jersey And Yarmouth

I know to some it may seem strange to find similarities between New Jersey And Yarmouth. However, after having visited one, and lived the other, there are definitely remarkable similarities!

For instance, do you know the best way to reach the Statue of Liberty is not from New York!

The better way, according to Destination Jersey City is from Jersey City, New Jersey!

We always hear about New York and all it has to offer, but when was the last time you heard about the Liberty Science Center, Jersey City’s high-tech science wonderland or the historic Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal in Liberty State Park. What about the Jersey City Waterfront along Liberty Walk, a 1.3-mile section of the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway?

The point is Jersey City, and all of New Jersey, have amazing things to discover. In fact you’ll discover something new each time you visit!

Yet, all we usually hear about is New York! Why, because New Jersey, especially Jersey City, lives in the shadow of New York!

Any of this sound familiar yet?

Yarmouth, like Jersey, lives in the shadow of, perhaps better known, areas like Halifax and Peggy’s Cove.

So, the real question here is what can we do about it? Well, let’s look at what Destination Jersey City is doing about it.

Destination Jersey City is a private, membership-based, nonprofit organization dedicated to communicating the outstanding value and appeal of Jersey City’s premier attractions, restaurants, hotels and historic sites to local, regional, national and international tourism markets.

They began in 2000 as a grassroots movement to help guide visitors around the city and quickly expanded to more than 30 organizations from the educational, cultural, nonprofit, healthcare, corporate, business and local government sectors.

Now members of Destination Jersey City are highlighting the city’s cultural assets and attractions through the DestinationJerseyCity.com website.

Sound familiar?

Their site offers maps, lists events, businesses, activities and locations of interest to visitors and residents; and an opportunity for local businesses to build more traffic through targeted online advertising and other exciting new resources.

One thing I really like about their Site is the Trip Planner, which helps create unique, printable itinerary for traveling around Jersey City.

The thing to note here is that Destination Jersey City started from a grass routes movement! It was not a Government Department or Agency! They did receive funding for certain projects like the transportation program, which included guidance and assistance with creating corresponding highway signage to complement Destination: Jersey City’s signage.

The time for Gov’t. Grants and adequate promotion and monies to smaller areas is over, both here (especially here) and in the United States.

Unless we as residents begin to work together to promote places like Jersey City and Yarmouth County we will always be in the shadow of large, more metropolitan areas.

We like Jersey City have great attractions, waterways, and much more to offer. When we learn to work together and promote Yarmouth County as a ture destination we’ll no longer play second fiddle to places like Halifax and Peggy’s Cove!

Why not contact us today to discover ways we can work together to make Yarmouth County and surrounding areas a true destination, both on and off line!
